Believe
Today sitting here thinking about the past
year, I focus on the word believe. There were so many days right before Brent was diagnosed that I had a pit in my stomach. I couldn't eat or sleep and I felt like I was in a daze. During that time one of my coworkers told me about her mom's successful battle against cancer. She mentioned that her family had bracelets made with the word believe on them. What a powerful gift! Our families now wear believe bracelets and necklaces, which I love. Wearing my bracelet daily calms me down and reminds me to believe. Believe and understand that our faith and positivity will get us through all this. It also doesn't hurt to believe in miracles!
The past month has been quite challenging. I mentioned that Brent is tired. He has also seen a decline in his appetite and has lost 10 plus pounds. This past week he had another endoscopy and scans. The good news is his esophagus is 100% clear of cancer. His scans are also showing no new growth 👏. They did find fluid buildup in his stomach and one lung. His oncologist didn't seem overly concerned about his lung, but requested a paracentesis to relieve pressure the fluid is causing. The fluid will be tested to determine if it's malignant.
Brent had a discussion with his main oncologist and the game plan is to meet with his other oncologist at UCHealth. Tuesday he will likely start the paperwork to see if he will move on to another clinical trial for immunotherapy. If that's the case it would be perfect timing. Clinical trials require 28 days with no other treatments beforehand. Brent would only have to miss treatment this upcoming week, the next week would normally be his week off and then he would miss one more week.
I pray Brent gets relief from this procedure tomorrow and can start eating again. I believe he is in amazing hands with his oncologists and know the 'perfect timing' of this trial would be due to their ability to navigate this ongoing process and always have the best outcome for Brent in mind.
Friday was a big milestone for Casa Huppert 2.0. Brent turned 45 and in my heart I believe there are many more milestones to come! We have been surrounded by family all weekend. Thanks to all of you for making it so special. Thanks to everyone for the sweet birthday messages along with your continued love and support ❤. Our village continues to grow and I am so incredibly grateful.
Please keep those prayers coming! Thanks to our families we have plenty of meals this week. If we need anything I will be sure to reach out via this blog.
